Local Indie Band The Hollow Oaks Signs With Regional Label, Eyes Wider Tour

Millbrook-born indie folk quartet The Hollow Oaks has signed a recording deal with Asheville-based Blue Ridge Sound, with a new album and regional tour planned for the fall.

MILLBROOK, June 3 — The Hollow Oaks, the indie folk band that got its start playing open mic nights at the Tap & Timber on Felton Street, announced Monday that they've signed a recording contract with Blue Ridge Sound, a well-regarded independent label out of Asheville, North Carolina. The deal marks a major step forward for the four-piece, who've spent the past three years building a loyal following across the region with their blend of acoustic guitar, tight harmonies, and what frontman Eli Drossner calls "small-town storytelling."

What's Coming Up

  • New studio album, tentatively titled Weathervane Road, due out in October
  • A 22-date regional fall tour hitting venues from Charlotte to Pittsburgh
  • A homecoming show at Millbrook Civic Auditorium on October 18 — tickets go on sale June 14

"We never left Millbrook in our heads, even when we were recording in Asheville," said bassist and co-songwriter Tara Minogue, who grew up on the city's west side. "This album is really about this place." Blue Ridge Sound founder Marcus Achebe said the label pursued The Hollow Oaks after seeing them perform at last year's Riverfest. Local music fans can catch a sneak preview of new material when the band plays Tap & Timber this Saturday at 9 p.m. Admission is free.
