MILLBROOK, June 3 — It started with a single smartphone video. Somebody in the crowd at Riverfest last month pointed their phone at the stage during The Copper Ridge Boys' closing number, "Halcyon Creek," and by the time the band had loaded their gear into the van, the clip was already spreading fast. Within ten days it had nearly two million views, and the calls from labels started shortly after.
A Deal Years in the Making
Dustroad Records, a Nashville-based independent label known for breaking acts like The Fenwick Brothers and Sadie Hollowell, officially announced the signing on Tuesday. Lead vocalist and guitarist Danny Pruett said the band has been playing together for seven years and the overnight attention was "surreal, but honestly kind of funny." "We've been hauling our own PA to every bar and county fair in a four-state radius," Pruett told the Courier. "And it turns out all it took was one Tuesday night in Millbrook." The band is expected to begin recording their debut studio album in August.
What's Next for the Boys
Before heading to the studio, the group will play a hometown celebration show at the Millbrook Civic Amphitheater on July 12. Tickets go on sale Friday at $18 general admission. The band's current lineup includes:
- Danny Pruett — vocals, acoustic guitar
- Tessa Morrow — fiddle and harmony vocals
- Cal Winthrop — pedal steel guitar
- Jerome "Bigs" Bigsby — upright bass
- Renata Solis — drums and percussion
