Millbrook's Own The Crestwood Trio Lands Record Deal After Viral Open-Mic Moment

A three-piece folk-rock band from the Millbrook Eastside neighborhood is headed to a Nashville recording studio after a video of their original song 'River Without Rain' racked up nearly two million views in under a week.

MILLBROOK, June 3 — The Crestwood Trio — guitarist and vocalist Dani Reyes, bassist Marco Tillman, and drummer Sasha Okonkwo — signed a recording contract with Blue Ridge Sound Records on Friday, capping off a whirlwind month that started with a 90-second clip filmed on a phone at The Lantern Room on Prospect Avenue. The video, shared by a regular patron, spread across social media almost instantly, drawing comparisons to early Lumineers recordings and earning the band fans well beyond city limits.

From Bar Stools to Boardrooms

The trio had been playing around Millbrook for about three years, picking up gigs at local spots like The Tap House on Garfield Street and the annual Riverfront Summer Series. Blue Ridge Sound reached out within 48 hours of the video going viral, according to Reyes, who said the band almost thought the initial email was spam. 'We literally all met in Marco's garage in ninth grade,' Reyes told The Millbrook Courier on Monday. 'We never stopped playing because we love it — the record deal still doesn't feel real.' Their debut EP, tentatively titled Porch Light, is expected to drop in early autumn.

What's Next for the Band

Before heading to Nashville, the trio is planning a hometown farewell show at The Lantern Room on June 21st, with tickets expected to go fast. Local music advocates are already calling the signing a win for Millbrook's arts scene, which has seen renewed investment since the city renovated the Eastside Community Arts Center last year.

City Council Member Priya Sandoval, who represents the Eastside district, congratulated the band on social media, calling them 'proof that Millbrook grows real talent.'
