MILLBROOK, June 3 — The Sable River Twins — singer-songwriters Cassidy and Jonah Vrell — are rolling into town this Friday night for what promises to be one of the summer's most anticipated local concerts. The siblings, who grew up just outside Millbrook in the tiny community of Pineridge Hollow, have spent the past 18 months touring behind their critically praised album "Dusty Pines," a lush, melancholy collection of indie folk songs about family, loss, and the rural Midwest. Friday's show at the Millbrook Amphitheater starts at 7:30 p.m.
A Homecoming in Every Sense
Cassidy Vrell, reached by phone while the duo was driving through Carver County, said playing close to home carries a different kind of weight. "There's people in that crowd who knew us when we were playing open mics at Hannigan's Coffee House in high school," she said with a laugh. "That's terrifying and wonderful at the same time." The tour has drawn strong reviews across the region, with the Cloverdale Gazette calling "Dusty Pines" "the most emotionally honest record to come out of the tri-county area in years."
