MILLBROOK, June 3 — With a packed summer movie slate on the horizon, both of Millbrook's major cinema operators are making big bets on upgraded in-theater experiences to lure audiences away from streaming services. Crestview Cinemas on Alderton Boulevard completed a $2.1 million renovation last week, introducing recliner seating in all eight auditoriums, an expanded concession bar serving local craft beer and wine, and a new Dolby Atmos sound system in its flagship screen.
The Competition Heats Up
Not to be outdone, Harwick Premiere Theaters in the Eastgate Mall announced it will debut its "Premiere Plus" experience on June 14 — featuring heated seats, in-seat dining service, and a private screening lounge for groups of up to twenty. The chain is also partnering with Foxwood Brewing Co. on a co-branded seasonal menu exclusive to the theater. Industry analysts say the moves reflect a nationwide trend of exhibition companies doubling down on amenities as ticket prices and competition from home entertainment continue to climb.
What's Playing This Summer
Both venues will carry the summer's most anticipated releases, including several franchise sequels and at least two films expected to generate significant local buzz due to partial filming in the Millbrook region. Film critic and Courier contributor Desmond Achebe noted that the upgrades are welcome but cautioned that "no recliner in the world fixes a bad script." General admission prices are holding steady at $13.50 for adults, with luxury format tickets running between $19 and $24 depending on the experience tier.
