Eastside Farmers Market Gets a New Permanent Home — and a Few New Vendors Worth Knowing
After two years of operating out of a temporary lot on Prescott Avenue, the Eastside Farmers Market has officially moved into its permanent home at Calloway Square, bringing a handful of exciting new food vendors along for the ride.
MILLBROOK, June 14 — After two years of operating out of a cramped temporary lot on Prescott Avenue, the Eastside Farmers Market has officially moved into its permanent home at Calloway Square, bringing a handful of exciting new food vendors along for the ride. The market, which runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., drew an estimated 1,400 visitors to its grand opening weekend — nearly double its typical Prescott Avenue crowd, according to market manager Lucia Brennan.
Meet the New Vendors
The expanded square allows the market to host 34 vendors, up from 21 at the old location. Among the newcomers drawing the longest lines on opening day were Sunup Bakehouse, a family-run operation from just outside the city limits offering sourdough loaves and hand-rolled pastries, and Porch & Pepper, which sells small-batch hot sauces made from peppers grown on a farm in the Millbrook River Valley. Also new this season is Halcyon Honey, a local apiary run by retired schoolteacher Gus Peralta, whose wildflower varietal sold out before 10 a.m. "I brought 60 jars," Peralta said, laughing. "I'm going to need a bigger truck."
What's Already There and Still Great
Long-time market favorites are also back in the new space, with more room to breathe than ever:
- Coldwater Farm — heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, and seasonal greens
- Millbrook Mushroom Co. — shiitake, oyster, and lion's mane varieties
- Tres Hermanas Tamales — the line is always long; get there early
- Brightside Coffee Roasters — locally roasted beans plus an espresso cart on-site
The market also features a dedicated kids' activity tent this season, running from 8 a.m. to noon. Calloway Square is located at the corner of Calloway Boulevard and 4th Street East, with street parking and a city lot one block north. Dogs on leashes are welcome.
