Local Theater Brings Broadway-Caliber 'Hamilton' Tribute to Millbrook Stage

The Millbrook Community Playhouse is pulling out all the stops for its most ambitious production yet — a full-length 'Hamilton' tribute show that's already nearly sold out.

MILLBROOK, June 3 — The Millbrook Community Playhouse is gearing up for what director Carla Voss is calling "the biggest thing we've ever attempted" as it prepares to open its Hamilton-inspired tribute production, Rise Up: A Revolutionary Musical Celebration, this Friday evening at the Hendricks Performing Arts Center on Cascade Boulevard. The show features a cast of 34 local performers, a live seven-piece band, and costume designs by longtime Millbrook seamstress Dolores Mack, whose work has graced regional stages for over two decades.

What to Expect

Unlike a traditional licensed performance, Rise Up is an original work that draws thematic inspiration from Lin-Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking musical — weaving together rap, R&B, and show tunes to tell a story of civic ambition set right here in a fictional version of Millbrook's own founding era. Tickets are $22 for adults and $14 for students, and Wednesday's preview night is already sold out. A handful of seats remain for Friday and Saturday evening shows, as well as the Sunday matinee.

  • Performances run June 6–9 at Hendricks Performing Arts Center
  • Doors open at 6:30 p.m., curtain at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday matinee begins at 2:00 p.m.
  • Tickets available at the box office or online at millbrookplayhouse.org

Voss told the Courier she hopes the production reminds residents that world-class art doesn't require a trip to the city. "We have so much raw talent in Millbrook," she said. "This cast has been rehearsing since February. Come see what your neighbors can do."
