Millbrook Art Museum's New 'Voices of the Valley' Exhibit Celebrates Regional Artists

The Millbrook Art Museum opens its most ambitious local showcase in a decade this Saturday, featuring work from 34 artists who live and work within 60 miles of the city.

MILLBROOK, June 13 — The Millbrook Art Museum is pulling out all the stops for its newest major exhibition. Voices of the Valley: A Regional Portrait opens to the public this Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs through September 1, featuring paintings, sculpture, photography, and mixed-media installations from 34 artists who call the broader Millbrook region home. Museum Director Sandra Yee called it "the most intentional celebration of place-based art we've mounted since the 2013 centennial show."

What's Inside

  • Tomas Garrick's large-format oil paintings of the Millbrook River watershed, spanning nearly 20 feet of the main gallery's east wall.
  • A photo documentary series by Priya Nandan chronicling three generations of families in the city's Eastside neighborhood.
  • A collaborative textile installation by the Millbrook Fiber Collective made entirely from locally sourced and dyed wool.
  • A sculpture garden installation by Marcus Elbe using reclaimed steel from the shuttered Kellerman Foundry.

The opening Saturday will include free admission from 10 a.m. to noon, live music in the courtyard from acoustic duo Harlow & Pine, and a short talk by curator Elena Voss at 11 a.m. Regular admission prices apply after noon: $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, free for children under 12. The museum is located at 88 Ashford Boulevard. For group bookings or school tour inquiries, call 555-0174 or visit millbrookartmuseum.org.
