Millbrook Arts Center Unveils Ambitious Fall Exhibition Featuring 30 Regional Artists

The Millbrook Arts Center announced its most expansive exhibition to date, "Currents: Art from the Heartland," opening September 6 with work from 30 artists across five states. Organizers say it's the biggest programming investment the center has made in over a decade.

MILLBROOK, June 3 — The Millbrook Arts Center is going big this fall. Executive Director Lorraine Castleberry unveiled plans Tuesday for "Currents: Art from the Heartland," a sweeping group exhibition that will fill all three of the center's gallery wings and feature sculpture, photography, oil painting, mixed media, and textile work from 30 artists hailing from across the Midwest and mid-South. The show opens September 6 and runs through November 2.

Why This Exhibition Matters

Castleberry said the center applied for — and received — a $120,000 grant from the Regional Arts Foundation of America to fund the project, the largest single grant the center has ever landed. "We wanted to make something that felt genuinely ambitious, not just for Millbrook but for the region," she said at a press event held at the center's lobby on Garrett Street. The exhibition will also include a curated lecture series, two artist residencies, and a youth workshop program in partnership with Millbrook Unified School District.

Featured Artists and Events

Among the highlighted artists are ceramic sculptor Odessa Frayne of Louisville, photographer Miles Okafor of St. Louis, and textile artist Bev Sandstrom, a Millbrook native who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. A free opening-night reception will be held September 6 from 6–9 p.m. and is open to the public. Additional programming details are available at the Arts Center's front desk or online.

  • Opening reception: Sept. 6, 6–9 p.m. (free)
