New Farm-to-Table Restaurant 'The Gilded Root' Opens in Millbrook's Eastside District

Millbrook's dining scene got a major boost this week as The Gilded Root opened its doors on Fenmore Street, promising locally sourced menus that change weekly based on regional harvests.

MILLBROOK, June 3 — After nearly eight months of renovations and a buzz-building soft launch last weekend, The Gilded Root officially opened to the public Monday at 412 Fenmore Street in the Eastside District, drawing a line around the block on its first full day of service. Owner and head chef Marcus Delray, a Millbrook native who trained at culinary programs in New Orleans and Portland, says the restaurant is built around a simple philosophy: if it wasn't grown or raised within 90 miles of Millbrook, it's probably not on the menu.

A Menu That Changes With the Season

This week's offerings include a roasted beet and whipped chèvre flatbread, pan-seared walleye from Kettler Lake supplied by Crestview Fisheries, and a slow-braised pork shoulder sourced from Dunmore Family Farm just outside of town. Dinner entrées range from $18 to $34, and a weekend brunch menu launches June 15. Delray also plans to host a monthly "Meet the Farmer" dinner series starting in July, where the producers behind each dish join guests for a prix-fixe meal and conversation.

  • Open Tuesday–Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Reservations strongly recommended for dinner service
  • Full bar featuring wines from regional vineyards
  • Private dining room available for events up to 20 guests

The restaurant fills a space previously occupied by a shuttered insurance office, and its warm reclaimed-wood interior has already earned admirers on social media. "We wanted it to feel like your grandmother's kitchen got a really good renovation," Delray laughed. Millbrook's restaurant association called the opening "exactly the kind of investment the Eastside has needed for years."
