MILLBROOK, June 1 — After 18 months of renovation and nearly a year of anticipation, The Provisions Hall opened Saturday morning at 440 Merchant Street to a crowd of several hundred hungry, curious Millbrook residents. The sprawling food hall — housed in the restored 1940s-era Hargrove Warehouse — features eight local vendors serving everything from wood-fired tacos and Vietnamese bánh mì to craft soft-serve ice cream and small-batch hot sauces. Developer Nadia Holbrook of Holbrook Urban Group said she envisioned the project as a way to give emerging food entrepreneurs a lower-risk path to opening a business in the city.
Who's Inside
The vendor lineup reflects Millbrook's growing culinary diversity. Among the opening-day highlights: Taquería Seis, run by siblings Rosa and Felipe Cervantes, drew lines out the door with their smoked brisket tacos; Little Saigon Bites — the first brick-and-mortar project from food truck veteran Minh Tran — sold out of its signature pork belly bánh mì by noon; and Sweetstack Creamery wowed the dessert crowd with its rotating soft-serve flavors. Other vendors include a specialty coffee bar, a cheese and charcuterie counter, a craft beer taproom, a wood-fired flatbread stall, and a juice and smoothie bar.

City councilmember Dwight Ababio, whose district includes Merchant Street, called the opening "exactly the kind of investment this corridor needed." The block had sat largely dormant since the Hargrove warehouse closed in 2009, and officials hope The Provisions Hall will anchor broader redevelopment along the street. A weekend farmers' market partnership is already in preliminary discussions.
